The Karan Malhotra-directed Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera was released a week ago. Also featuring Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor the Yash Raj Films venture saw a massive release across 4350 screens in the domestic market. With immense hype surrounding the film, Shamshera was expected to open with a bang. However, contrary to expectations, Shamshera has been facing a difficult time at the box office to post decent collections. After a lackluster start, the business of the film continued to remain low over its opening weekend and opening week as well.
In this box office report, we look at the opening week collections of Shamshera while comparing the same to Ranbir Kapoor’s previous releases. Not surprisingly, Shamshera which received less than appreciative reviews collected Rs. 40.45 cr in its first week, to emerge as Ranbir Kapoor’s eleventh highest opening week grosser to date. In fact, Shamshera has failed to surpass the business of the actor’s previous releases like Besharam which collected Rs. 52.10 cr, Rockstar which collected Rs. 49.01 cr, Jagga Jasoos which collected Rs. 46.29 cr, and even Roy which had collected Rs. 41.77 cr. On the other hand, though, the business of Shamshera does manage to surpass Ranbir’s other releases like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani which collected Rs. 35.83 cr, Anjaana Anjaani which collected Rs. 33 cr, and Bombay Velvet which collected Rs. 22.27 cr.
Currently, Shamshera is all but out of theatres. In fact, with the release of Ek Villain Returns trade predictions estimate that the business of Shamshera will dwindle further. Though the film will continue to find some takers, its overall collections are not expected to be affected much.
